Our 70s Scrapbook is a large-format
picture book, conjuring up a remarkable insight into British
life during the seventies. This book is profusely illustrated
with a large collection of fascinating memorabilia of the
time. If you gew up in the 1970s, then this book will take you back on a nostalgic journey to your childhood. What makes book so special is that it is full of images of consumer products and memorabilia that manages to evoke memories far more effectively than books containing only large sections of text. Here you will see the same things you saw when you went to the newsagents, or the supermarket, or switched on the television. Robert Opie is a well-known author of many books about
British nostalgia and consumer history. Initially, as a
teenager, Robert Opie gathered together contemporary packaging,
everything from cereal boxes to cigarette packs. The first
item in the Collection was a Munchies pack bought by Robert
on Inverness railway station in 1963, when he was 16. A
few years later Robert's mission extended to understanding
the origins and development of brands and retailing; he
assembled the evidence from thousands of surviving examples
of bottles, tins, labels, signs and many forms of promotional
and advertising material. The Robert Opie Collection archives, from which the materials for the 1970s Scrapbook have been drawn, is now the world's largest collection of British advertising and memorabilia.

1970s Picture Book (1970s Scrapbook) by Robert Opie
There are many books about British nostalgia, however many are presented in a contemporary or modern "retro" style, that, at worst, tend to distort memories, rather than bring them back to life. Robert Opie manages to keep the past alive by being faithful to the spirit of the times.
For many younger people, who grew up, for example, in the 1980s, The Seventies are in fashion - a new fashion that is more about taking original styles, and giving them a modern look and feel. The 1970s revisited in this way is positive and creative, and we support it, however for those who grew up in the 70s, revisiting the way things really were holds far more value.
The 1970s Scrapbook is authentic, realistic and undistorted, and therefore guaranteed to bring your memories back to life.
