Our specialist reproduction Victorian wall tiles allow you
to create the perfect finishing detail to any period interior
or restoration project. In 1859 William Morris commissioned
Philip Webb to design his home "Red House". Although Webb
was a Pre-Raphaelite architect he also designed six bird
tiles which can be found in the "Red House". These include
a magpie, crane, cockerel, hen and chick, duck and goose.
They are painted underglaze in blue on a Victorian biscuit
and are brought to life by a deep transparent glaze. Our
tiles are authentic reproductions of original tiles produced
by the nineteenth century designer Philip Webb. Great care
is taken to reproduce each tile using the original techniques
and wherever possible the glazes and materials. Each tile
order is supplied with a information about the history of
the tiles and their designer, Philip Webb. Our tiles are
handmade in the England and are generally recognised
as the most authentic reproduction Victorian tiles available.

How
our tiles are made: Our range of authentic victorian
tiles are probably the most authentic you will find. The
images original Victorian tile designs taken from the original
templates. The materials and methods of production are also
faithful to the originals - the original hand-formulated
glazing recipes are used, and each tile is hand-painted
before firing, in exactly the same way it was done over
100 years ago. |
Philip
Webb (1831 - 1915) was a Pre-Raphaelite architect and
designer. In 1854 he met William Morris and in 1861 became
a founder member of Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. for
whom he helped design church furnishings, embroideries and
drawings for printed textiles. In 1859 Morris commissioned
Webb to design his home 'Red House'. |
