The traditional white pudding basin from Mason Cash has become a "classic" recognised
all over the world. As old as the Mixing
Bowl and traditionally its partner - once the recipe was complete any mixture
which required steaming would be placed in the basin and covered with greaseproof
paper and/or muslin. String would be tied round the basin and looped to form a
handle (hence the stepped rim) and the finished item placed in a pan of boiling
water to cook. It is sometimes said that Pudding Basins are only used for Christmas
Puddings - if fact, nothing could be further from the truth - the bowls are perfect
for all sorts of steamed dishes. From such firm favourites as Suet Crust Steak
and Kidney Puddings and Spotted Dick to Summer Pudding, Treacle Sponge or modern
vegetarian dishes, the Pudding Basin is in demand all the year round. In these
days of "disposables" Mason Cash is the only company making traditional Pudding
Basins from traditional materials in the traditional way. Unlike some inferior
copies you may see around, these are the originals. As a result, these
bowls are likely to become well used and loved family heirlooms which will still
be going strong in 50 years time. They are also, incidentally, the bowls chosen
by the Royal Household to package Christmas & Plum Puddings, that are tradionally
given as gifts to members of staff. - Dimensons: 12.5cm/4¾"
- Traditional instantly-recognisable design
- Long lasting (some still in use, having been passed down a family for 4 generations!)
- Ideal for today`s modern kitchen
- Ideal gift for weddings etc and have set collecting potential
- 3 Sizes available
Our pudding basins are useful all the year round - not just for Christmas! And
not just for cooking. Our bowls are the original multi-purpose kitchen accessories:
used for cooking, mixing (especially for liquids - they're ideal for beating eggs),
storage and display.
The large size is highly recommended, since you will have not only all the volume
you need, but also a very attractive object in your kitchen. However, more units
of the medium size are sold than any other size. The smaller size mixing bowl
combines adequate functionality for most uses with a very affordable price. You
may also consider buying all three sizes, as a set not only has a higher
collectable value, the bowls can be stacked one inside another for easy storage!
Mason Cash have been producing beautiful, functional, iconic kitchenware for
over 200 years. The origins of Mason Cash can be traced back to a pottery operating
at Church Gresley in the heart of England around 1800. Famed for classic kitchenware
designs such as the Mason Cash mixing bowl and pudding basins, the products and
brand have endured the test of time and have become design icons. In fact, some
designs have barely altered for over a hundred years.
