Our specialist reproduction Victorian tiles are authentic
reproductions of tiles designed by the nineteenth century
designers William Morris, William De Morgan and Philip Webb.
Careful research and development have enabled us to bring
you some of the most respected and authentic reproductions.
Great care is taken to reproduce each tile using the original
techniques and wherever possible the glazes and materials.
Often modern materials are too refined so all materials
are produced specifically for these tiles. In keeping with
the original tiles the biscuit tiles are coated with an
engobe to provide a suitable painting surface. The designs
are then hand painted in layers depending on the complexity
of the design, with a combination of under glaze stains
and glazes before a final glaze coating is applied. The
number of process together with the hand painting gives
each tile a unique life of its own and a variation in colour,
which is very similar to the original.

How
our tiles are made: Our range of authentic victorian
tiles are probably the most authentic you will find. The
images original Victorian tile designs taken from the original
templates. The materials and methods of production are also
faithful to the originals - the original hand-formulated
glazing recipes are used, and each tile is hand-painted
before firing, in exactly the same way it was done over
100 years ago. |
